Mr Jeffrey Feltman, the UN Under Secretary–General, Political Affairs to United Nation said on Wednesday night in Abuja said that UN was ready to support Nigeria to achieve peaceful general elections.
Feltman said this when he addressed a news conference at the end of his two-day official visit to Nigeria.
“The UN organisation has designed a system to support Nigerian institutions and the success of the general election is of great concern to us,” he said.
Feltman also said that UN Secretary-General, UN Ban Ki-Moon, was deeply concerned about security challenges in Nigeria.
The UN official said the world body was ready to support Nigeria to end terrorism by providing it with logistics and training on counter terrorism.
He urged Nigerian politicians Nigeria to honour the Abuja Peace Accord and pursue their post-election grievances through lawful processes.
“Given the present status of Nigeria in the global community it would be wrong for political actors to adopt violence as means of settling their political scores,” Feltman said.
